Persecuted and saved: routes history and solidarity.
Paths that cross the Pyrenees, roads and history of back and forth, sometimes used by smuggling and often as routes of escape for persecuted people of either side of the border.
With the name of the "Perseguits i salvats" project, the Diputació de Lleida recovers and indicates the four itineraries used around 80,000 refugees to escape in the World War II, it is estimated that about 20,000 were Jewish. This initiative coincides with the recovery of the Chemin de la Liberté (liberty road), route of evasion that joined the French Department of Ariege with the region of Pallars Sobirà.
The routes of the project are a total of total of 150 km, distributed by the regions of Pallars Sobirà, Valle de Arán, Alt Urgell and la Cerdanya. The project also consists of the museum of d'Aran in Vielha, prison - museum "camí de la llibertat" in Sort, "Espai Ermengol" in la Seu d'Urgell and exhibition space in Martinet de Cerdanya.
