El Ripollès, land of counts and abbots: come to know a region where in every corner there is history and discover a nature in its noblest state. Welcome to the Ripollès.
El Ripollès is a region of the Catalan Pyrenees. The mountains dominate a landscape where the great peaks draw the border with France: (Puigmal (2909.8 m), Pic de Bastiments (2881 m), Pic de L'Infern (2869 m) ... It is a very hilly territory and divided into three long and deep valleys: that of Camprodon, that of Ribes and the Baix Ripollès.
The region is considered to be the birthplace of Catalonia, and it brings together a very important and high quality Romanesque art heritage. In its valleys there are more than 98 monuments, being one of the most important concentrations of Romanesque architecture in Europe, you can visit the great monasteries of Ripoll, Sant Joan or Camprodon or the small churches of Pardines, Queralbs, Ventolà and still go up to the sanctuary of the Virgin of Núria.
The Ripollès has been classified as natural protected areas of European level, approximately 35% of its territory (20,000 hectares). These are some of the most interesting: the headwaters of the rivers Ter and Freser, the Sierra de Cavalleria, the Valley of the Rigart and the "Rasos" of Tubau. In these spaces we can find some of the nature jewels of the Pyrenees such as the Chamois, the Pyrenean Triton, the Royal Eagle, the Wild Rooster, the white partridge and the native trout.
The territory has suffered a depopulation of the mountain villages, but this process has had a brake thanks to tourism, which is the activity that has progressed in recent years, diversifying its offer throughout the year.
In winter the ski resorts of Vall de Nuria, Vallter 2000 and La Molina offer very modern facilities and very complete services (kindergartens, restaurants, ski schools ...) to enjoy the practice of skiing in majestic environments.
With the arrival of spring, the mountains are awakened from their wintry lethargy. It is an ideal time for family tourism, there is an extensive network of roads to make pleasant excursions. For the most expert the region has many hostels open throughout the year. And the beginning of the thaw allows us to enjoy the descents of the rivers.
Summer allows us to escape the high temperatures and enjoy the activities for children (and adults) that offer us the ski resorts.
The autumn allows us to discover and enjoy the spectacle of its forests and at the same time to go out to search for the precious mushrooms.
Few places in the Pyrenees can gather in its valleys history, culture, nature, mountain sports, gastronomy ... come to know it and enjoy it in the following holiday cottage:
